Historic Fort Totten Battery in Queens, N.Y. sits at the mouth of the East River at the junction to the Long Island Sound, near the base of the Throggs Neck Bridge. Along with its sister, Fort Schuyler in The Bronx, it was designed to protect New York Harbor from enemy attack. Construction of the Fort was never completed.
In the 1950's / 1960's, it was utilized as one of the Nike Missile Bases ringing the greater New York Area.
